please report a bug
Please report a bug about this as it should not be doing that. Perhaps first try resetting the user profile. It may be a localisation issue.

This is also happening to me
This is also happening to me (tried clean install already and wiping out user profile). It doesn’t show the document content either. Have posted this on AskLibO, but still awaiting moderation approval. Also, when you try to click on a blank space the menu appears, but the fonts are looking fuzzy (looks fine in a testing virtual machine).

This might
Nvidia graphics?
This might mean i’m out of luck and will have to stick to 5.0 version. Because i’m using ~2 years old Nvidia drivers as every new version their released was crashing my PC (and for hundreds of other users on Nvidia forums). Granted, i haven’t tried to update in a long time. But my card is 2-3 years old, so maybe there is no recent drivers update for it anyway.

Yes, Nvidia.
hmm, so maybe don’t install all software. Just unpack drivers, go to Device manager->graphic cards and update from PC. Only drivers.

I have found a workaround.
I have found a workaround. Disabling OpenGL support in LibreOffice helps with that issue. I will try updating my video drivers later, but if my PC starts crashing again i will have to use this to make LibreOffice working.

Bug report existing
I had the same (a very similar) problem and suspected OpenGl rendering to be the villain. In fact I managed to get a working installation finally without that option selected. To switch off that option I had to start LibO 5.1.0.3 many times with one after another control appearing. No understanding on my side for this.
I filed the bug report tdf#97644 but still am shying away from testing my observations regarding the reproducibility.

You can disable OpenGL via
You can disable OpenGL via registry if LibreOffice is not behaving correctly and you can’t access the Options. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/OpenGL (at the bottom of the page).
