Uninstall or disable Apple Remote Desktop
Sometimes you may need to uninstall or disable Apple Remote Desktop for maintenance tasks.
This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.
Follow these steps for both client and administrator computers.
Important: You should enter these Terminal commands exactly as shown. If you use the rm command incorrectly, such as if you mistype the pathname, you might lose data, up to and including all information on your volume. You might want to first back up your data.
To remove the administrator software:
Drag the Remote Desktop application to the Trash.
Empty the Trash.
Delete the ARD database from /var/db/RemoteManagement/ by executing these commands in Terminal:
sudo rm -rf /var/db/RemoteManagement
sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
Next, execute these commands:
sudo rm -r /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/
rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Remote\ Desktop/
If you purchased Remote Desktop via the Mac App Store, execute this command:
rm -r ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop
