LibreOffice installation does not work in Xubuntu 14.04
Wed, 17 Dec 2014 - 4:17 PM
Installed LibreOffice in Xubuntu 14.04 and could not get it to start, not even from the command line, but it did reveal that I was missing Java components. After a lot of digging on the web for about half an hour I installed the referenced package and rebooted but still no go.
So, decided to install the complete Java suite, but then the question arose, which Java and which version? Oracle Java or open source? Version 6, 7, or 8? So, decided on open source software and installed openjdk-7-jdk and still no luck.
I have a lot of respect for the LibreOffice project and its magnitude, but I fail to understand why the installation doesn’t warn and advise what’s missing, or help a user by simple installing what is needed.
Or, perhaps I would have been better not to waste a whole afternoon and install OpenOffice?
P.S: I should mention that the dpkg reported the following at the beginning of the installation, nevertheless it doesn’t affect the installation.
dpkg: error processing archive sudo (—install): cannot access archive: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing archive dpkg (—install): cannot access archive: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing archive -i (—install): cannot access archive: No such file or directory
