Why do we need to fill in a captcha math question when logging on?

Is it just to prove we know basic maths?

Isn’t the username – password good enough..

Spam prevention. This forum frequently has a very large number of spambots trying to post to it. If spam is not kept under tight control the forum will become unusable, as happened with the old oooForum.
OO 4.1.2 on Xubuntu 16.04
