Hi all,

We are using LibeOffice on Microsoft 2008r2 RDS servers farm. We are experiencing some high cpu usage when users open any document in LibreOffice. This causes server’s cup overload and a very bad user experience (slow rated performances).
Our RDS farm uses 4 servers and each one can support up to 50 users. If each user opening a LO document uses 20% cpu charge, the server is quickly overloaded.

This occurs with our actual LibreOffice 4.1.5 version as well with the oldest 3.* and 4.0 version and the newest 4.3.

Does anybody use LO in the same environment ? Do you experiencing the same behavior ? Do you find any workaround ?

Thx in advance.

Regards,

Eric

Perhaps worth trying OpenOffice and/or Gnumeric.

Hi RoryOF, I’ve no other
Hi RoryOF,

I’ve no other choice to use LO. It is required for my company… In my view I shall have chosen Ms Office instead but money kills Puzzled

Any way, this high use of cpu by LO seems to be known but not solved. Right ?

Regards,

Eric

I can’t say about high CPU usage on windows – I use OpenOffice (very stable) on Xubuntu64.

Immediate thoughts that come to mind:
  • Is the document on a network? How is the location exposed/exported to the client?
  • Is the document in an MSO file format (DOC/X, XLS/X, PPT/X)?
  • Is the document of significant size?

Perhaps try testing with local files, native file formats, and small(er) files to determine which of these may be a contributing factor.

Given the mentioned versions it is likely v4.2 will also be the same, but it may be worth testing as well.
