I just got my first Android phone and would like to take some of my LibreOffice Writer and Calc documents around with me. I found a web page from 2012 proclaiming that there would be an Android version of LibreOffice. Is it ready yet? If not, is there an ETA on it?

no ETA
It was advertised early-2013 as being “close to release” thus I have offered dates of late 2013 / early 2014, but there have evidently been some unforseen issues delaying the release. I am not aware of the exact progress other than that available via these primary sources:

There are many problems associated with getting a desktop application the size of LO slimmed down to the point where it will run and be distributable (<50Mb) via Google Play.

EDIT 2016-02-15: Generally improve post and links.

At last we have some illustrative examples showing the degree to which LO for Android is making progress. The recent blog entry by Tomaž Vajngerl indicates the delays have been due to rebasing on Mozilla code. An ODF viewer is expected first which will then be enhanced to provide editing functionality. Key quote:

By the time of LibreOffice 4.4 we should have a working and polished document viewer application ready.
