I have update LO numerous times, but I have never encountered this before… During ‘Validating install’ I get a message saying “Some files that need to be updated are currently in use”. The specific file in question is “Microsoft Windows search filter host”. I close the process tree, Retry, and then there are five ‘programs’ with four digit numbers… It’s just all a bit weird.

I’ve used the installer successfully on another machine and didn’t encounter this, so I know the installer is good. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a solution?

Thanks for any help.

Stop Windows Search service
This Microsoft Community thread indicates it is a problem with other applications also. Stop the service in question and restart it again after the installation is complete.

Thanks for the reply, oweng.
Thanks for the reply, oweng. As I mentioned, I stopped the ‘MS search’ service, but only with Task Manager, not in Services. And it promptly restarted itself. I did this twice before I wrote. After I wrote, I went back and tried a third time and the installation worked. ‘MS search’ service was still running, but the installation plowed right on past it without a sideways glance.

Next time (though I hope there never is one!), I’ll try to remember to go to Services to stop the offender. Thanks for the tip,

Paul
