Libre Office 4.2.8.2: Bug with outlining mode. Is there a workaround?

Libre Office Version: 4.2.8.2 Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)
Linux Mint 17 Qiana
Cinnamon Desktop
I found a bug in outline mode, typing an outline.
For some reason, when using Roman numerals, some heading get excess space between the Roman numeral and the text of the heading.
Is there a way to fix this?
Is there a workaround?

I don’t know the number of items. I can easily transcribe 10 pages of notes today.
I don’t understand what you mean by “adjust the tab”.
What it be better if I just did not use Roman numerals?
Can I switch the numbering scheme just by selecting the text and choosing format?
Thanks Rory

The problem may occur when your numbering moves to 10 or 100 with Arabic numerals. when you set up numbering adjust the first tab to the right, perhaps to 0.75 inch or even to one inch; this should be sufficient for most reasonable numbering in a days work.
I am now going offline.
The solution is to define your tabs properly in setting up the numbering; you have an idea how many items you would need numbered and can adjust the tab to accommodate to that. It shows up particularly in Roman numbering because of the number of digits used 8 = VIII); it usually does not show up in Arabic numbering because in many lists the numbering does not go above 9 and those numbers are only single digit.
