Hi- I’m trying to put together a document like a book. I was completely unable to get Master/sub documents to work for me, so I’ve abandoned that and am trying to use the “insert document” approach. I’ve created a main document with title page, foreword, table of contents etc. and am trying to insert the individual chapter documents. If I open a chapter doc by itself, I see page numbers in the page footers – good. But, after inserting the chapter docs into the main document, the footers along with the page numbers disappear. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? If it’s of interest, I’m using LO Writer 5.0.6.3.

Thanks!

Check that the page styles in the inserted document are the same as the page styles in the original document before insertion.

Thanks for the advice – this may be the problem. I want the front matter to have a default page style (no page numbers, e.g.), but the chapters to have another style as defined in a template. Is there some way to do this?

basic guide
@Marais, refer my basic guide here. Perhaps concentrate on combining all the content first. Manual copy+paste is usually the easiest method as then you are not inserting any page styles. The page styles can be retrofitted fairly easily thereafter.

Hi, Oweng-

Thanks so much for the link to your basic guide. Not only does it help resolve my problem exactly, it’s also a good start to understanding just how LO Writer works. Or perhaps I should say, how to use LO writer. I have to admit that it’s been an uphill battle so far, after hours of experimenting and reading the documentation, but with the help of your example it’s starting to come into focus now.
