Can't type apostrophe, a double right-pointing angle quotation mark appears instead.
I’m an Arch Linux user, my current LibreOffice version is 5.1.2.2.0.
In all my LibreOffice applications, not just in Writer, whenever I try to type the apostrophe character, I get a double right-pointing angle quotation mark… this: ». This happens only in LibreOffice apps, nowhere else in my system, none of my other apps. My OS language is English with en_US.UTF-8 locale and LibreOffice is set to English. My keyboard however is Hungarian and its layout is set to standard Hungarian. Nothing wrong with it, no special changes were made, everything is fine except in LibreOffice.
What could cause such thing? I type regularly in English so the apostrophe is essential but I have to copy-paste it from some other place for some time now. I can’t recall when did this happen, a few versions ago there was no such problem. I just noticed it a few days ago but a lot of Google search revealed nothing, it seems almost if I were the only person with this problem but I can’t be the only one affected. Furthermore this is the only character affected, I couldn’t find any else that won’t match to my keyboard layout.
If I switch to the maintenance branch, version 5.0.6.3, the problem goes away. It seems that v5.1 is at fault.
In Ubuntu they can be obtained by Shift Alt-Gr>> and Shift Alt-Gr<< from an English keyboard. Press the Shift Alt-Gr together, then release it and type the two >> characters.
Tools – Autocorrect option – Localised options – Single quotes – Check/uncheck the ‘Change’ option, and adjust the ‘replace’ character if it necessary.
