OK, so I recently posted how LibreOffice Calc will gradually slow – cursor will eventually take several seconds to settle into a cell, the coloring of cells can also take several seconds to operate properly. Eventually the whole operation becomes sluggish.

At my son’s suggestion I opened Activity Monitor on my iMac to watch how much RAM the program is using. Over about 4 hours it went from 400 MB to over 1 GB.

This is the newest version. I don’t know how one gets suggestions to those who are working on this program but this is unacceptable. Yes, if the program is closed and reopened it will freshen up and work well for awhile. In a previous post re this issue someone suggested that this began to occur after 4.04 version or so,

check BUG reports and your MEMORY settings
Hello Michael:

Have you had a look though the relevant BUG-LIST to see if anyone else has reported a problem resembling yours? There are quite a few BUG reports of performance slowdowns with Calc (but some dated from quite a while back).

I likewise have noticed quite bad performance slow-downs doing certain operations using Calc in LO v.5.x, but no significant slowdown problems with v.4.4.7 on Mac OSX 10.11.4 ‘El Cap’(so far).

Have you tried increasing the Memory available to LO under menu PREFERENCES (OPTIONS) => MEMORY?

Hi and thanks for comment. I
Hi and thanks for comment. I did look at bug reports. There were some similar but not quite the same. No, I have not changed memory for lo but just did so. It was set at only 128MB.

Thanks.

Post info on your bug report
Michael:

Would you kindly post a link to your BUG REPORT (mentioned above), and keep us informed if there are any developments on it. I will post info should I ‘discover’ anything that seems relevant.

Bug report +
Per request above here is the link to my bug report: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org//show_bug.cgi?id=99441

Also, last 2 days I did an experiment. I left activity monitor open and continued to use libreoffice till it reached a degrading point where it was hard to use. I wanted to see what she memory use hit. Result 1.82GB. That’s moving from 250 MB to 1.82GB!! Gee.
