Tables created by MS Word as docx do not import properly.
Thu, 14 Apr 2016 - 1:26 PM
I was sent a docx document that consists mainly of tables of text that correctly opens in MS Word 2007 and 2010. AbiWord makes a fair stab at opening the document, and shows the tables – not necessarily formatted absolutely correctly – but the document is readable. So the source document is probably OK.
When opening it in LibreOffice 5.2.2 running under Xubuntu 15.10 all the tables are blank (not even lines round them).
This looks like a real bug in LibreOffice that needs fixing.
The original document is appended.

Works on Windows 7 as well
Interesting – LibreOffice Writer 5.2.2. works on Windows 7 as well, with one or two very minor formatting errors.
I did not test it on Windows (I have MS Office installed so no need).
Looks like a Xubuntu/LibreOffice problem. I am running Xubuntu 16.04 AMD64.

Re: Tables created by MS Word as docx do not import properly.
Opened correctly for me using OO 4.1.2 on Xubuntu 16.04 64 bit (4 tables, just under 4,500 words)

OpenOffice vs LibreOffice - Word Compatibility
Opens perfectly for me under OpenOffice 4.1.2 on Xubuntu as well.
Pain having to de-install LibreOffice, but the binaries of LO and OO will not co-exist without compiling one of them.

Re: Tables created by MS Word as docx do not import properly.
The binaries can live side by side, wit minor adjustment to one(?) file. I don’t know how to do this as I use OO exclusively (stability and visual preference).
If you can access teh RC with Xubuntu, give it a shot.
