How does Recent Documents icon on toolbar work?

I just added the Recent Documents icon to the Standard toolbar. But when I click on it, nothing happens—it doesn’t give me a menu of recent documents. When I go into the File menu, I can easily access the recent documents that way. I was just trying to save myself a mouse click/hover. Is there something else I’m supposed to do here?

I just downloaded LO 5.1.1.3.
I just downloaded LO 5.1.1.3. If you are in a document so the Standard toolbar is available then the second icon from the left is Open and the down arrow to its right will give you recent documents.

OK. I added the Recent Documents icon onto the standard toolbar, to make that list a bit quicker for me to access. Does this icon actually do anything?

I figured out what you were saying. Yes, that down arrow will already give me the recent documents file, so no need to clutter up the toolbar with another icon.
Thanks!
