I have been creating a presentation under Arch Linux which has embedded videos (AVC/AAC). They play fine. However, when I open this presentation under Windows 10, I am presented with a giant grey question mark. If I delete the video and re-insert it under Windows 10, it plays fine. Is there a reason for this (assumed) cross-platform incompatibility?

ask Apple / Microsoft
If the tech giants wanted to create a cross-platform media framework, they could … but they are not really interested in doing so. The best option we have is likely to be H.264 / MPEG-4 but of course there are numerous stream codecs within this specification and there lies the problem. The TDF wiki article on media support and this answer on AskLO offer the best guidance. Good luck finding cross-platform codecs that are not WAV or MPEG-1.
