Document text not visible in window, buttons/scroll not functioning in LibreOffice 5.1.0.2 & 5.1.0.3

When double clicking doc icon or opening from within LibreOffice documents appear to be loaded (I see a page count at least) but the text is not displayed. Scrolling does not work, when I open the options tab, the options are not functioning either.
However, when I select print / download as PDF both outputs are fine.
Tried repairing / uninstalling 5.1.0.3, uninstalling and then installing 5.1.0.3 (both 64bit for Windows).
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

At bottom right of LibreOffice window there are three little icons of page groupings. Click on the leftmost (Single page icon) and then choose a scaling factor by double or right clicking in the % box at right hand corner. Full page or Page width are good starting pints.

If it were me, I’d remove the installation, reboot computer and then install from a fresh download. Others may have different advice.

Are the problem documents shown as read-only” in the Window Titlebar?

Resolution: drop back to 5.0.5, the latest 'STILL' version
I know at least one of the docs was showing as read only – but I can’t check the others as I’ve installed 5.0.5 and everything’s working again.
Looks like I tripped over a ‘Fresh’ LO version – 
not a great experience.

on some documents. a ‘DOC’ file type loads perfectly ok, but an MS Word doc (.docx) or an OpenDocument Text file (.odt) does not.
It looks like those file extensions are not recognised by LO (even when I create a new file, save it as a .ODT, it cannot be re-opened in Writer, and again the options/scroll/slider don’t work either.
