I’m new to LibreOffice. I’ve been using it most recently to paste internet text into to retain formatting. What I don’t like is that the text is filled with gray bars and boxes that seem to refer to nothing relevant to my text. I don’t like the fact that they’re there and am hoping there is a way to be rid of them after I save the document.

They’re probably markers for
They’re probably markers for non-breaking spaces when they occur in the text (web pages are replete with them for formatting purposes) and section markers when they surround text. You can open the Navigator and then select each section and remove it. Important: neither will be printed if you keep them.

Where is...
the Navigator, please. And when you say “select each section” are you referring to selecting each gray mark or to something else. Do I simple select something like “delete” or is there a different protocol for removing things? I’m having a heck of a time trying to figure out where tools and things are in this program and what the icons and commands do. I wish there was a user guide that enumerated each icon and function…

Thanks!

/View /Field shadings will turn them off. /Edit /Paste_special and selecting “unformatted text” from the popup will stop them being transferred. Navigator is turned on/off by F5 key
