Hey guys, I’m having a bit of trouble with my TOC – while trying to set an additional Tab Stop to the 2nd level header.

I put in the additional Tab Stop for 1st as seen on the first screenshot.

While trying to give the 2nd level the EXACT same Entries configuration (see the second screenshot) I end op with the not so great TOC seen in screenshot 3 (eventhough the preview within the Entries configuration looks quite alright).

It appears it tries to set the last Tab Stop before the first :/
I’ve tried a lot of different configuration to no avail – and I would expect all headers to act as the first one anyway.

Plz help

/Robbie

edit corresponding paragraph styles
Robbie, the levels of ToC entries are defined in the Contents N paragraph styles. Try editing the first two styles to set the position of the TAB stops. That should fix the issue. The Entries tab on the Index dialogue is a little misleading in this respect IMO.

only 1 tab in Paragraph Style: Contents 2 :/
Thanks for your quick answer, Owen.

But apparently when I add the 2nd Tab Stop to level 2 in Entries and the TOC acts real crazy I still ONLY see 1 Tab for Contents 2 in Paragraph Style?!
See attachments.

What am I missing??

try using default entries
Try setting the TABs in the paragraph styles in combination with using the default set of Entries.

The tab settings on the
The tab settings on the Insert TOC dialog box override the settings in the paragraph style. Right click on the index field, select Edit, select the second tab, click on the first Tab marker (T) in the format line, then options for the tab settings appear. Edit those and you should be fine.

That's the palce I define Tab Stops already
Thanks Floris,

but this is where I started adding the additional Tab Stop…the second tab is the Entries tab Wink
And this is where the preview looks fine – but still the TOC it self still looks very bad :/

Okay, I meant the second tab
Okay, I meant the second tab of that window, not the second tab stop. Smile Little misunderstanding. Please read my previous again with that in mind.

I meant the 2nd tab too
No misunderstanding – I understood what you wanted me to do – which is what I’ve done from the start: please see my 1st post and the entries image Wink

Oh this is stupid
:Cool I should have seen that all along, but that 0.5 cm tab is too narrow – the indentation of the Level 2 text is already wider, so of course the tab jumps to the next tab stop. Make it like 1 cm wider and you should be fine.
