Good day All

I have been scouring the net trying to figure out why I can not open Visio stencils in Draw, even though it is mentioned in a few places that it is possible. I can open Visio drawings, although editing is a bit tricky, but when trying to open a stencil I just get a blank page.

I’m using Draw for business use and trying to “convert” the other guys at the office so that we can standardise on a format. Our drawings are generally very basic, which is why I’m not going for the CAD option, but one big thing the boss is fussy about is using manufacturer stencils (Cisco, Axis etc.).

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

PS. I’m running LO 4.4.5.2 (OS X 10.11)

I just downloaded and istalled the cost free MS Visio Viewer 2010 application. And then I have renamed your attached file to .vss, ant I try open it. The Visio Viewer seems can open it, but it displayed one white, empty page only. Maybe your Visio files are corrupt, or maybe the Visio Viewer 2013 not support this version of the .vss files… I got same results with the LO 4.4.6 Draw, LO5.0.2 Draw too.

(I have tried other Visio extensions (vsd, vsdx, vdx): all of them displayed as an empty page is my MS Visio Viewer 2010.)

Just opened it with Visio
Just opened it with Visio 2007 and could view it. Thought it might have something to do with the “age” of the stencil (format incompatibilities or something) so downloaded a fresh copy but LO still only opened a blank window. Tried different years (date of creation) and eventually upgraded to LO 5.0.3.2 Still no stencils work/open, all I get is a blank screen.

This wouldn’t have bothered me much if it wasn’t for the fact I have read others have been able to do it Wink

Thanks.

And what about the MS Visio
And what about the MS Visio Viewer 2010 or 2013? I can not display the content of your file with the MS viewers on Windows 7 ×64 prof. Why? Which version of the Visio was created the files with? What is the content of the 53 KiB size example file?

The Visio Viewer for Mac is not free (nothing with Mac ever is Tongue) so I can’t check and I only have XP running under VirtualBox (the latest viewer only works on Win7 and up).

The stencils were downloaded from the manufacturers sites so I have no clue what version they used to make them.

The stencil I attached was Cisco “interfaces and modules …”. There are three devices shown with RJ45 sockets. I have also downloaded stuff from www.visiocafe.com

v5.1 improved support
Since this seems the most generic Visio thread on this forum I will add the following here. The upcoming v5.1 release contains numerous improvements to this import filter. Refer v5.1 release notes.

There was also a minor improvement in the v4.4 release.
