I have Linux Mint 17.2 64 bit originally a KDE install. I installed XFCE4 and other desktops recently, but Libreoffice is not showing the Menus at the top of the screen after installing libreoffice-gtk. Without this package, menus are shown, but ugly. Checking an existing working install this package is installed (and not using gk3).

Checked that below are installed and I have run from command line – there are no errors or warnings here.
libreoffice-common
libreoffice-core
libreoffice-gtk

I am baffled what else I need to do to enable the menus. I have tried a clean profile, even a new user with no change in the problem. All I can think of at the moment is I am missing a package.

Any help appreciated – it’s driving me nuts

Re: Libreoffice missing menus in XFCE4
A useful tip for fault-finding in linux is to open a terminal and run a program in that. One often gets error messages that don’t show up when started from an icon or shortcut. This may give you a clue to what, if anything, is missing. I remark for information that on Xubuntu 15.04 OpenOffice 4.1.1 is running correctly.

Thanks for the reply RoryOF.
Thanks for the reply RoryOF. As mentioned above I have tried running from the command line and nothing was returned. I can also confirm that a fresh install of XFCE on Mint works flawlessly, which is Ubuntu base. Maybe I need to go through all the packages and see what is missing. If I can’t get it fixed it will mean reinstalling, but I am not there yet. I sure there are some stones still unturned.

Try deleting or renaming your LibreOffice user profile before doing any reinstalling.

Yeah, as I mentioned I tried
Yeah, as I mentioned I tried a new user / clean profile. Nothing doing there either. It’s a weird one. I have a vague memory of seeing this before a few years ago, but can’t remember the details.

This systems been installed a long time, I would hate to reinstall OS for a problem with menus in one app.

Then I’d purge LibO, reboot computer and reinstall LibO. Before reinstalling it I’d also remove the LibO user profile, just in case it is involved in the problem.

re: Libreoffice missing menus in XFCE4
There are linux diagnostics which will track the files and system calls a program is making. One could use these and then read their output to try to find the missing file(Drunk. I think it might be better to repair your linux install using an image with a native XFCE interface, although in my experience such repairs can often require reinstallation of other installed applications. Or go for the drastic course – backup all data, and reinstall everything from scratch.

I’m wondering if it is
I’m wondering if it is something to do with the new Gnome and how the menus are displayed there and in Mac, where the system controls the menubar. I’ll have a look at some diag tools and continue the search. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well I upgraded to Libreoffice 5.0 which is very nice and much faster loading, but alas I still have the problem and no menus. I am baffled.
