When I try to start any Libreoffice application I am getting this error:

“soffice.bin – Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000102). Click OK to close the application.”

And that’s it. Click OK and the pop up disappears and Libreoffice doesn’t start. Any Ideas?

LO 4.4, Windows 8.1.

Sorry to bump, but this is urgent. Everything I own is locked up in here and I desperately need access today. My researches suggest it may be a bug. Should I file a bug report? How do you do that? Should I be posting in another forum? Any clue from anyone on how to move forward on this please.

Re: soffice.bin - Application Error
If you are using Windows, start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill any soffice (for OpenOffice – perhaps slightly different for LibreOffice?) processes shown on TaskManager’s Processes tab. If that doesn’t work or there are no such processes to delete try deleting or renaming your LibreOffice User Profile. If that does not work. I suggest removing LibreOffice using RevoUninstaller at its most aggressive, rebooting your computer and then reinstalling LibreOffice (or OpenOffice)

Thanks for the reply. What
Thanks for the reply. What I’ve tried: Uninstalling using Geek Uninstaller on the most aggressive (Force Removal) setting and rebooted. I’ve downloaded the latest version of LO (4.4.2.1) but when I install the computer asks for the old (4.4.1.2) version installation files. I found the old .msi and the program seemed to install OK but when I went to start LO I got a message that the files could not be found. I uninstalled that installation (rebooted) and installed from the old .msi and now I get the same “soffice.bin – Application error” that I got before. There are no instances of soffice.exe running in task manager. I am in the process of trying to delete the user profile but, this being a new machine, I haven’t got round to forcing Microsoft to let me have access to my own files yet. I need to get back to work and will be on to that later. Thanks again for your help, but this is a weird one. I haven’t been able to find any reference online to anyone having the same problem.

Re: soffice.bin - Application Error
As a quick fix I suggest downloading and installing OpenOffice (which I use all the time for my writings – remarkably stable on linux).

Download only from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
This site will redirect you to SourceForge servers where the files are stored; your download will start in 5-10 seconds with no need to click on anything else (read: DO NOT click on anything else).

Edit: you could try starting Windows in Safe Mode (Press F8 key when starting older Windows, not sure about Win 8 ). LibreOffice should run, albeit slowly, in this mode. If it does run and is stable in Safe Mode, it indicates some program/driver that runs in Windows full mode is interfering with LibreOffice. It then becomes a task of checking just what.

I found the solution in this
I found the solution in this thread

Uninstall using the “Remove” option in the original LibreOffice .msi package. So if you have LO 4.4.1.2 installed as I did, find or download the exact same LibreOffice_4.4.1_Win_x86.msi, start it and, because LO is already installed you are presented with three options : Modify, Repair or Remove. Choose Remove and then reinstall using the same or the latest version as I just did. Clearly Control Panel Add/Remove Programs is lacking in some way, as is Geek Uninstaller on the most aggressive settings. Anyway, I’m finally up and running again. Thanks for your help and suggestions.
