The passage from LO 4.3 and 4.4 has not been pleasant. These are the problems I’d like to solve:

1) Large Icons in the toolbar
The new icons are too large, so I’ve not enough space to place all the icons I need.
I looked for a “small icons” setting, but I didn’t find it.
Is there a way to have the icons of the same size as before? Maybe an icon theme?

2) Icons not recognized
In my user profile I have a number of personal icon associated to some functions and MACROs.
The new Libreoffice seems to don’t recognize these icons, so I’ve now a long description text instead then in their place.
Is there a different way then manually re-associate the icons again?

3) The new sidebar don’t save the last used panel.
With the previous versions of LO I used on the right side the “styles” panel.
My idea was to close the new sidebar and restore the old “styles” panel, but it seems that the style panel has been removed.
So I decided to use the styles panel of the sidebar (unfortunately more cumbersome, but I can’t have everything), but every time I open a new document, the sidebar shows the “properties” panel.
I’d like to have the styles panel ever opened on the right. Is there a way to obtain this?

Thanks in advance.

A1: Tools > Options… > LibreOffice > View > User Interface section.

A2: There have been a number of UI changes under v4.4, including a fair amount of icon shuffling. These changes may be related. It may be necessary to check the icon file names to ensure those icons affected have not been renamed. EDIT: On re-reading this question it may be an issue with the user profile (location / permission of new icons).

A3: Bugs TDF#65351 and TDF#86880 are likely related.

Thanks oweng! a1: great,
Thanks oweng!

a1: great, this solves the problem! Strange I’ve not found it before, I’ve sifted the options without success!

a2: it seems I have to re-associate icons manually. Maybe the old settings in the profile will “dirty” my profile folder? Create a new profile would be a huge work. Any suggestion?

a3: I’m pleased I’m not the only one with this problem. I already noticed it in OpenOffice, and it was one of the reasons why I prefer LO. I hope this will be fixed soon, I think in the meantime I’ll stay with LO 2.3.5.
But has the old sidebars completely been removed? It is not possible to use it in the meantime?

PS: I think, anyway, that the new sidebar need an improved graphics. At the moment it is very cumbersome and seems like an external element barely integrated. I hope in a “slimmer” design for the future.

styles deck in sidebar
As indicated in the v4.4 release notes under the Sidebar changes section the Styles and Formatting panel now only opens in the sidebar (refer bug TDF#73151 ).

Thanks for the reference.
Thanks for the reference.

About the point 2), it seems that switching to the small icons solve the problem. Now I’ve back my icons again.
It seems that if I want to use my icons with the large style, I’ve to create a bigger version of the images.

So, I only have to wait for the fix of the point 3). Wink

The (ugly?) fat icons were introduced with V4.x I think. The late 3.x versions (I sometimes still use 3.6.5.2 portable), however, are very matured, and may offer advantages over 2.3.5.

Currently installed: LibO V5.1.2 on Windows 10

My fault, I mean 4.3.5! At the moment the real problem is the new sidebar, as the problem with the icons has been solved. As I discovered icon themes, now I’ve replaced the new icons with a more “minimal” style.
