Enhancements from Symphony
I'm using LO 3.3.0 with Ubuntu Lucid/10.04 and I've probably put this post in the wrong part of the forum, apologies if so.
I like Symphony use of tabs as I often have multiple documents open and tabbing would make it much easier to organise if LO could add this. I also like the formatting sidebar in Symphony. Otherwise, Symphony is not suitable for production writing which I do.
I dislike Symphony for what are strong LO features, which for me are: ability to completely customise toolbars and keyboard shortcuts, especially assigning Fn keys to styles as I write and don't need technical features as much as style features. I would like to be able to control the Fn 1, 6 10, 12 keys too. I don't care for the base functionality, and seems odd to reserve these very important base keys. But at least I can customise which is impossible in Symphony.
I would like to be able to delete all the templates in LO except the ones I use which I can do in Symphony (had to use gksudo nautilus, but I did get rid of them all). The LO template organiser is functionally awkward and needs to be made much simpler especially for people who work with lots of templates and importantly change templates for documents, depending on the form they need to be in -- this is an area that still needs work as there is too much rework.
I'll think of other things, but I just wanted to put in a comment on Symphony as I tried Sv3 and still don't like it, sorry IBM.
Can you not have LO stop working while a document is being saved, freezes work on other documents. Not helpful.
I like what I think you're trying to do with LO, and as a writer, I am looking for this to be a powerful, and flexible production too. Thanks.

Hmmm yes, this is an important point. Non-UI-blocking save routines would be really nice.
This has been discussed several times on the OOo mailing list and shot down. I hope you will have better luck with LibO. The best place to bring this up would be the developer mailing list and the bug tracker. Sign for the mailing list at http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice and send a message there and file a request on the bug tracker at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ . Place a link back here to the bug tracker and I will help spread the word for those that maybe interested in this feature.
