GrandPerspective è una piccola utility per Mac OS X che offre una mappa grafica per la visione immediata dei file contenuti all'interno di un Hard Disk o di una determinata cartella a scelta.
È utile per esplorare e gestire il disco, ma è estremamente comodo per individuare i file e le cartelle che occupano la maggior di spazio sull'HD.
Ogni file è visualizzato come un rettangolo con una superficie proporzionale alla dimensione del file. I file contenuti nella stessa cartella vengono raggruppati in un box per identificare rapidamente la loro posizione. Una cartella molto grande viene rappresentata da un rettangolo grande, e tutti i i file contenuti all'interno diventano una serie di tasselli colorati (sensibili al puntatore) che insieme ne rappresentano la forma.
Dall'interno dell'applicazione è possibile accedere alle cartelle invisibili di Sistema, cancellare (con molta attenzione) i file direttamente, ma anche personalizzare i colori assegnati ai blocchi nella finestra, modificare la legenda dei colori e della tipologia dei file, e molto altro.

Da un paio di giorni è stato rilasciato GrandPerspective 1.3.4. Dopo quasi due anni di attività di sviluppo la nuova versione proprone vari piccoli miglioramenti richiesti dagli utenti e pochi bug fix.

Segnalo che GrandPerspective è stata aggiornata alla versione 1.5.0.

Sorting items in pop-ups alphabetically.

Fixed bug: Revealing of files did not work on loaded scan data.
Fixed bug: Scan data could not be loaded when file names contained strange characters (e.g. linebreaks and non-printing characters)
Fixed bug: Application could crash because disposed views were still observing events.

4 Aug 2019 GrandPerspective 2.2.2 has been released and is available for download from Sourceforge.
It includes fixes required to run the application on macOS Catalina. Catalina is currently in beta and changes how the System Volume is stored. GrandPerspective's file scanning algorithm has been adapted accordingly which should avoid crashes reported by beta users.

10 Jan 2020 GrandPerspective 2.4.0 has been released and is available for download from Sourceforge. It features a new Control panel, which replaces the old drawer which has been deprecated by Apple and did not fully support Dark Mode. The new panel reduces screen clutter as it is shared by all views and can be placed where you want. This new version also includes a fix for an issue that could cause crashes when scanning data volumes.
